Dr. Barbara Millan Mejias

She is Product Manager of a Machine Learning focused team at Booking.com, where she started out as a Data Scientist. Originally from Venezuela, she studied physics at Simon Bolivar University and subsequently earned a PhD in particle physics from the University of Zurich, working at CERN with the Large Hadron Collider experiments for 5 years. After leaving research, she decided to exploit the knowledge she had acquired about big data and data science in an industrial environment. She has participated in UN panel sessions, TEDx talks and other activities boosting the participation of women and other underrepresented segments/groups in education, science and technology. She is a founding member of CEVALE2VEN, an organization with the goal of promoting and disseminating particle physics education in Venezuela and other Latin-American countries.
